About The Position

We're looking for a Maintenance Technician to join our team, ensuring safe and comfortable living for residents across 130 permanent supportive housing units for formerly homeless individuals. Requirements

  • 2+ years of building maintenance skilled in building repairs (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, refurbishing, cleaning) and knowledgeable in trade practices, safety, purchasing procedures, and building maintenance systems.
  • Dedicated to serving all residents with understanding and respect, particularly individuals facing complex challenges such as financial hardship, housing insecurity, substance abuse, mental health issues, and domestic violence.
  • Basic Computer skills including Microsoft programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams)
  • Possess organizational skills, ability to prioritize requests, develop successful relationships, always maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and boundaries.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of Landlord/Tenant Laws, Fair Housing Laws, ADA.
  • Access to reliable personal transportation required, including a DMV record that permits driver to be insured under SHELTER, Inc.’s automobile coverage.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check
  • Must provide TB test clearance

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the Rosin Court property is maintained physically to meet the standards and policies set by HUD, REAC and by SHELTER, Inc.
  • Execute building and unit maintenance, encompassing:
  • Repairs: Minor appliance and fixture repairs, lock repair and replacement, plumbing fixture repair/replacement, wall patching, miscellaneous carpentry, and minor masonry.
  • Installations: Floor tile, window coverings, carpet, major appliances, and light fixtures.
  • Upkeep: Drain clearing, unit interior cleaning, interior and exterior painting, and fence building/repair.
  • Coordinate and oversee third-party vendors or contractors for specialized tasks beyond in-house capabilities.
  • Perform all aspects of apartment unit turnovers, including general repairs, painting, cleaning, and appliance checks, ensuring timely completion
  • Actively follow all safety procedures and identify opportunities for safety enhancements.
  • Document and submit recommendations for necessary physical repairs or replacements to supervisors
  • Promote and foster harmonious relations among residents, tenants, vendors, and the community promptly and professionally as needs/issues arise
  • Work collaboratively with internal Affordable Housing Specialists to ensure timely resolution of resident issues.
