About The Position

The Maintenance Technician is primarily responsible for conducting preventative maintenance as directed by the Port Engineer. Duties and Responsibilities: Safety First. Be an active advocate of, and participant in, the Safety Culture. Safety shall always remain the highest priority. Remain true to and champion the Company’s RESPECT Core Values and Code of Conduct. Consider reliability and efficiency regarding Company operations. Support overall state of safety and security for the project site. Demonstrate practical knowledge of all phases of shipboard safety procedures and knowledge of location and use of all firefighting and safety equipment (i.e., fire extinguishers, life preservers, work vest). Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Compliance with Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) (as required). Report safety-related concerns. Accept tasks for tasks from the Port Engineer and Port Captain and plan/implement execution Fluid changes, equipment service, filter changes, clean and generally improve facilities, vessels and equipment as required by the Port Engineer. Ensure all aspects of safety during task execution. Utilize power tools to accomplish designated tasks. Maintain supplies, tools, and parts inventories. Use of approved hazmat required for paints, solvents, & cleaning agents. Assist with filling water, bunker fuel, connecting, and disconnecting shore power as directed. Perform cleaning and custodial tasks of the vessels and property, including maintenance tasks as assigned and minor engineering repairs as directed. Work to achieve the highest levels of performance and productivity. Monitor and assist in the maintaining the Preventative Maintenance Program. Monitor the completion of maintenance and repair tasks by Company personnel and outside contractors. Ensure all aspects of safety during task execution. Understand the Employee Handbook and adhere to policies. Comply with rules and regulations contained in the crew handbook and as directed by supervisor including, but not limited to: Report to work on time and ready for duty. Ensure that the proper uniform is worn, and grooming standards are met. Complete required administrative forms clearly and accurately. Understand and comply with the Safety Management System (SMS). Ensure that maintenance personnel and shipboard engineers do as well. Understand and comply with Ship Instructions (SIs). Maintain Crew Qualification binder. Understand and comply with HELM operating procedures. Collaborate with other HMS personnel to remain attentive to regulatory requirements and alert to regulatory changes. Assist in ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations. Seek clarification and support when there is a question. Present professional level of customer service and appearance to all clients, both internal and external. Requisition supplies, tools and other resources from Port Engineer and Port Captain as needed. Report all deficiencies to the Port Engineer. Additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC Card), and/or ability to obtain and maintain
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certification, and/or ability to obtain and maintain
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Copy of DD214, if Veteran status
  • General Mechanical knowledge required
  • Minimum one (1) year experience with general mechanics and electrical systems
  • Proven track record of working successfully in a team environment
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion to develop and execute innovative solutions to crew management and morale issues
  • Logically and independently plan, organize, and complete work assignments
  • Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Set and achieve high standards of performance
  • Demonstrate initiative and be able to make progress on multiple assignments under time constraints
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with fellow employees
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, quickly changing environment
  • General computer skills
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident/incident testing
