About The Position

The purpose of this job is to perform maintenance and construction work at the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation buildings, aquatic facilities, and parks. Conduct routine maintenance on facility HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, and/or perform a variety of construction trades, including carpentry, concrete work, roofing, and masonry work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Associate or technical degree in a related field preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience.
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction within 6 months of hire.
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification.
  • Aquatic Facility Operator license within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of: Electrical controls, aquatic systems and equipment, HVAC systems, and commercial plumbing and related fixtures.
  • Standard hand tools, industrial and power tools such as floor buffer, scissor lift, vacuums, and drills.
  • Skill in: Estimating time and materials needed to complete jobs.
  • Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.
  • Operating hand and power tools in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operating motorized equipment such as skid steers, mini excavators, and tractors.
  • Providing high levels of effective customer service.
  • Ability to: Work from blueprints, plans, and sketches.
  • Handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Receive and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, volunteer groups, and the general public.

Nice To Haves

  • Missouri general certificate in plumbing, electrical, and HVAC strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Performs electrical and plumbing work: installs and replaces fixtures, switches, receptacles, and wiring; and repairs faucets, commodes, water heaters, and valves.
  • Performs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning work; repairs and installs heating and air conditioning units.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment, plumbing, electrical fixtures, concessions equipment, various piping, pumps, and motors.
  • Maintains public pools by monitoring pool chemistry and repairing pool steps, stands, and slides.
  • Operates a wide variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment associated with the construction trades.
  • Loads and unloads cleaning supplies, special event materials, and equipment.
  • Researches and procures materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate records.
  • Provides customer service to patrons.
  • Trains staff and volunteers as assigned; conducts public outreach. Participates in continuing education and training as required.
  • Assists with snow removal during inclement weather.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
