About The Position

The Maintenance Technician Assistant supports the Maintenance Team in ensuring all production equipment and facility systems operate safely and efficiently. This role focuses on assisting with preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting, equipment setup, and maintaining organized, compliant work environments. The Assistant works under the direction of Maintenance Technicians and Supervisors while developing technical skills for future advancement.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems - gears, bearings, belts, pulleys, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow instructions
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to safely use basic hand tools and shop equipment
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving mindset
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 0–2 years of maintenance, manufacturing, or related experience

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to read and interpret basic prints, drawings, or schematics preferred
  • Willingness to learn PLCs, drives, robotics, and advanced systems over time
  • Technical school training or coursework in mechanical/electrical fields preferred
  • Experience in plastics manufacturing is a plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Assist Maintenance Technicians with routine service, repairs, and troubleshooting of production equipment
  • Support preventive maintenance activities to reduce downtime and extend equipment life
  • Help inspect equipment, components, and spare parts upon arrival for accuracy and condition
  • Assist with machine installations, repositioning, and basic setup tasks
  • Assist in diagnosing mechanical and basic electrical issues under supervision
  • Use basic tools and instruments under guidance
  • Support root cause investigations by gathering data, observations, and documentation
  • Escalate complex issues to Maintenance Technicians or Supervisors
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage
  • Assist in tracking equipment history and preventive maintenance schedules
  • Help organize maintenance areas, tools, and spare parts inventory
  • Follow and support 5S standards
  • Follow all safety procedures, GMP standards, and electrical/mechanical safety requirements
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment
  • Assist in identifying potential safety risks and report concerns immediately
  • Support lockout/tagout procedures under supervision
  • Communicate effectively with Maintenance, Production, and Leadership teams
  • Assist with basic training of operators on proper equipment handling when directed
  • Support Maintenance Technicians during high-priority breakdowns
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support continuous operations
  • Must be flexible to work 2nd or 3rd shift rotation
  • Availability for occasional on-call or overtime as needed
