About The Position

Maintenance Tech I position is a position that can be assigned to any of the roles of the below listed jobs at the manufacturing plant. The primary function of this position is for the employee to rotate between different jobs as business needs dictates- Electrician, Machinist, Mechanic and Boiler Operator Required training will be given before being placed in a role. Summary of Responsibility for each relief role: Machinist The primary function of this position is to fabricate, design, and redesign parts, repair parts for all machinery in the plant. Will be assigned to the machine shop. Will be capable of operating all machine type equipment (lathes, drill press, grinders, mills, and saws). Will design and redesign parts for shop machining, repair & modify molds and hardware. Will fabricate parts. Will repair parts for the shop machinery. Will perform welding as needed. Will perform necessary paperwork on each job order. Electrician The primary function of this position is to test, install, program, assemble, and maintain electronic equipment and components of processing operations of the plant. Will be familiar with the function and purpose of all electrical devices used within the plant. Will assist in the repair and/or replacement of mechanical equipment. Will be familiar with the National Electric Code Handbook. Will install, troubleshoot, and program computers used in processing operation. Will be capable of operating shop machinery. Will use electrical test equipment. Will repair/replace and install component of electric devices. Will perform basic troubleshooting on electrical equipment. Will understand/troubleshoot electrical/electronic control systems. Will fabricate and install conduit systems. Will perform electronic maintenance on motors and controls. Boiler Operator The primary function of this position is to maintain the steam pressure, air pressure and hydraulic pressure needed to correctly cure tires, heat oil and heat the plant and the operation of plant equipment. Will check log book each day for possible problems to be rectified. Will check compressors and add lubrication oil and check crank case level. Will blow the air dryer and air bundle by pushing appropriate button. Check temperatures of the air compressor and cooling water level. Check lubricators to insure operation. Go to boiler - blow the water columns, bottom blow to get sediment out of boiler, mark down. Will do chemical tests. Check conductivity of boiler water Will add chemicals as needed. Will check pumps and monitor gauges. Mechanic The major function of this position is to provide mechanical work, maintenance, reuild services, and on-going repairs to the various machines in the plant. Will check each day for assignment to machines that are having mechanic problems. Will be responsible for overall repair and/or rebuild needed on shop machines. Will log machines for down time while working and repairing with his clock number. When finished, will log the machine back in. Rebuild -- taking specific machines of the line for worn out or modification maintenance. Floor coverage -- day to day maintenance of machines. P.M. Crew -- preventive/predictive maintenance procedures. Will also rebuild parts for various machines. Will also be responsible for assistance with electrical work. Will have ability to understand and repair electrical components of machines and plants. Must pass an in-house mechanical examination with a score of 70% or better.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED required, or commit to obtain a GED with Carlstar sponsored GED program within 12 months of hire date
  • Certification as a Forklift Operator
  • Three to five years of Industrial experience
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment while meeting production and quality goals
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid forklift or equipment license as needed or required
  • Must be able to meet the Ergonomic as well as the Physical Base Score for this position.
  • Must pass company tests: Agility and Drug.
  • Exerting 200 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 75 lbs. frequently and/or in excess of 30 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
  • Stand 90 % and Walk 10 % of a normal day.
  • Lift/Carry 25 lbs. to 100 lbs. Any lifting over 70 lbs. must be completed with assistance, i.e. mechanical or individual.
  • Push/pull: 50 lb constantly, up to 250lb occasionally
  • Pinch minimum 12 lbs.
  • Grasp minimum 125 lbs.
  • Full range of motion required: Cervical, Shoulders, Elbow, Wrist, Fingers, Hands, Truck Twist, and Feet.
