About The Position

Performs highly advanced supervisory maintenance and construction work. Work involves overseeing maintenance and construction staff involved in the installation, care, and repair of state facilities and equipment. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Six years full-time, wage-earning electrical or high voltage electrical experience. Technical or trade school courses in an electrical maintenance or construction related field or completion of an electrical apprenticeship program may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for a maximum substitution of two years.
  • Ability to maintain security and integrity for critical infrastructure as it is defined by state law.
  • Knowledge of construction and maintenance procedures, methods and standards of electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, rules, and regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of installation and maintenance of electrical equipment.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to read and interpret electrical blueprints, drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Skill in the use of electrical test equipment.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
  • Skill to review technical data and prepare technical reports.
  • Skill to plan work in order to meet established guidelines.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 45 lbs. and over, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.

  • Experience in the supervision of inmates preferred.
  • Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
  • Skill to train and supervise inmates.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, supervises, assigns, schedules, inspects, and performs electrical, high voltage electrical, and general maintenance and construction work; coordinates work assignments with other supervisors to ensure efficient use of resources; and provides technical expertise.
  • Oversees the preparation of and prepares estimates for work hours, materials, and resources required for projects; approves and initiates requisitions for materials and supplies; and prepares reports and maintains records of repairs.
  • Trains and supervises inmate maintenance and construction workers; and ensures compliance with work standards and safety and building regulations.
  • Assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
