About The Position

Performs highly advanced supervisory maintenance and construction work. Work involves overseeing maintenance and construction staff involved in the installation, care, and repair of state facilities and equipment; and supervising the work of inmates. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Six years full-time, wage-earning electrical, high voltage (600 volts or higher) experience.
  • Experience in the supervision of inmates preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction and maintenance procedures, methods, and standards regarding electrical technology.
  • Knowledge of primary and secondary electrical systems and electrical interface and applications.
  • Knowledge of codes and safety requirements involving construction and maintenance electrical activities.
  • Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
  • Skill to review technical data and prepare technical reports.
  • Skill to plan work in order to meet established guidelines.
  • Skill to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Skill to construct, install, replace, and repair electrical systems.
  • Skill to train and supervise inmates.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, supervises, inspects, schedules, assigns, prioritizes, and participates in high voltage, electrical, and general maintenance and construction work; coordinates work assignments with other supervisors to ensure efficient use of resources; and provides technical expertise.
  • Oversees the preparation of estimates for work hours, materials, and resources required for projects; approves and initiates requisitions for materials and supplies; and prepares reports and maintains records of repairs.
  • Trains and supervises inmate maintenance and construction workers; and ensures compliance with applicable safety rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
