About The Position

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Business Officer, the duties include but are not limited to: Manage facility fleet vehicle maintenance and repair Work in Asset Management System (AMS) to manage and track fleet vehicles Supervise subordinate staff assigned to the Transportation Department Evaluate and facilitate required vehicle repairs Assign staff duties to ensure repairs are completed timely. Observes and inspects work performed to confirm it is completed satisfactorily. Help staff by demonstrating proper methods and techniques to accomplish specific tasks Will schedule the use of, and assign drivers to motor vehicles Maintain records of work performed and account for labor and material costs Will inspect and road test fleet vehicles to evaluate safety and performance Follow manufacturers recommendations when completing all warranty work and when addressing vehicle recalls Oversee the procurement and delivery of gasoline, road salt, and sand to the facility Ensure facility compliance for all regulations associated with operating an automotive repair facility Purchase required materials associated with Transportation Department with the NYS Procurement Card and provide appropriate documentation for purchases Participate in the monthly Fleet Management Meeting with Central Office Work with key administrators to coordinate transportation needs for Sunmount DDSO • Other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Promotion: One year of service as a Motor Equipment Mechanic or Construction Equipment Mechanic.
  • Open competitive: One year of experience supervising staff engaged in the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of gasoline and/or diesel-powered motor equipment, including passenger vehicles, construction and heavy equipment, freight and other commercial cargo vehicles, self-propelled off-road equipment, and non-self-propelled motor equipment.
  • Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades.
