About The Position

Manage the maintenance department in the areas of safety, preventive and predictive maintenance (oil and vibration analysis, etc.), troubleshooting, and new equipment specification and purchase. Reduce equipment downtime and increase on-line factor. Improve maintenance procedures to improve manpower efficiency and utilization. Responsible for evaluating mechanical/electrical/instrumentation equipment performance and making recommendations for improvements to increase reliability and minimize downtime. This position is responsible for planning, scheduling and execution of all maintenance activities in the nitrogen plant. Support all safety, environmental and quality assurance programs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 7+ years' experience in the chemical process industry, with 3+ years' experience in a supervisory role.
  • Ability to diagnosis and trouble shoot various maintenance problems within the plant.
  • Experience inspecting, maintaining, and trouble-shooting rotation equipment, reciprocating equipment and piping systems.
  • Familiarization with predictive and preventive maintenance techniques is also recommended.
  • Working knowledge of nitrogen operating units, processes and equipment
  • Demonstrated competency addressing and handling confidential issues and materials regularly.
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret and understand technical drawings.
  • Fluent in English, oral and written required.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with Maintenance Supervisors to communicate priorities and make work assignments.
  • Work with operations and engineering to identify and solve problems with operating units, process and equipment. May require planning and cost estimating the method of repair and being an "in-house consultant".
  • Participate in weekly manager safety walk-throughs.
  • Identify areas needing improvement and develop a strategy.
  • Create programs to reduce costs and improve reliability.
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings with maintenance supervision, reliability engineers and maintenance planners.
  • Manage the maintenance department to meet all plant safety, environmental, and quality assurance goals and initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot pumps, compressors, turbines, fans and gearboxes.
  • Develop expertise on equipment failure analysis. Offer repair recommendations and provide engineered solutions to remedy problems.
  • Investigate failure modes of failed equipment components such as bearings, mechanical seals, gears and couplings and recommend failure prevention as a result.
  • Recommend spare parts and inventory changes.
  • Develop and manage the craft training program.
  • Review new equipment specifications to ensure they meet intended service requirements.
  • Provide input on upgrades of tools and equipment to enhance craft productivity.
  • Manage all aspects of the plant's Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Use leadership skills to motivate the Maintenance Department and to work effectively with other departments.
  • Develop and manage a formal workflow process for conducting proactive, routine, and emergency maintenance work.
  • Provide field supervision support on critical equipment maintenance.
  • Coordinate testing under guidelines set forth by the Mechanical Integrity component of OSHA's Process Safety Management.
  • Regularly communicate with supervisor work progress, concerns and questions.
  • Exposure to work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals.
