SUMMARY We have a great opportunity for a Maintenance Superintendent to join our Westlake Performance & Essential Materials team. In this role, you will direct and coordinate activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance, and installation of processing equipment including tanks, pumps and piping, and in maintenance of buildings, grounds, and utility systems of mill, industrial plant by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. This role will provide strategic and operational directions, policies, short-term and long-term organizational planning, and assist in the overall decision making, in regards to facility operations. In this leadership role, you are responsible for carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance to Westlake’s policies and applicable laws including: recruitment, mentoring, and training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; performance evaluation management; supervise, reward and discipline employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues. The Maintenance Superintendent will have six direct reports which includes two maintenance supervisors who supervise a total of 10 hourly maintenance technicians. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, technical discipline or relevant equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of industry and/or plant experience, preferably in a continuous chemical manufacturing process facility
  • Excellent people manager, open to direction and collaborative work style and commitment to get the job done
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups and major projects or initiatives.
  • Budget development and oversight experience
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in excel, word, outlook, and access
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
  • Persuasive with details and facts
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively

Responsibilities

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Manage six subordinates who including the maintenance supervisor who supervise a total of 10 hourly maintenance employees.
  • Contribute to short and long-term organizational planning and strategy as a member of the management team.
  • Provide strategic and operational direction and decision making to the Maintenance staff in support of company goals and objectives.
  • Assure Maintenance Team performs work safely and in compliance with environmental regulations
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Team to develop business plans and activities that support these goals.
  • Establish goals and performance measures for Maintenance Department metrics in support of Company goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement corrective action initiatives and programs to improve maintenance performance as required.
  • Responsible for managing preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives and programs.
  • Oversee all contractor activities utilized to supplement Maintenance Department.
  • Supervise, coach, and administer discipline to assigned personnel.
  • Lead and mentor Maintenance Staff and conduct employee evaluations for direct reports.
  • Develop annual operating and capital budgets for the Maintenance Department.
  • Participate in setting strategic direction, policies, and assist in overall decision-making, in regard to operation of the entire facility as a contributing member of the management team.
  • Manage all personnel issues across the Maintenance group including employee complaints and concerns, disciplinary activities, annual performance appraisals, and training needs.
  • Ensure all Corporate & HR personnel policies and practices are understood and enforced
  • Establish a working relationship with other staff and departmental managers to be sure activities across the Maintenance team support their needs as customers.
  • Support overall facility planning activities in regard to new equipment installations, building changes, and factory rearrangement in support of business needs.
