About The Position

To provide a variety of maintenance and janitorial services for both the elementary school (Coopersburg) and middle school (Bethlehem) properties. Duties include but are not limited to ensuring that school property and buildings have a pleasant and presentable appearance and are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner for staff, students, and the community. Responsibilities vary as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years' experience in facility maintenance with cleaning/janitorial duties.
  • Valid Driver's license is required.
  • Ability to read and write in English to communicate with all of our staff and outside vendors or service personnel.
  • Ability to diagnose minor mechanical problems and assess corrective action, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
  • Must have knowledge of grounds and building tools and equipment operations and possess the ability to perform repairs to minor equipment.
  • Must exhibit a high degree of integrity, loyalty, and dependability and have a strong work ethic.
  • The ability to work independently and multi-task is required.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 40 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment or assistance from other colleagues.
  • Must be willing to respond to occasional emergency calls outside regular hours to assist with urgent matters.
  • Must be able to work with all staff members, co-workers and contractors in a professional manner.
  • Must be self-motivated and prompt in performing tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up, moves, and takes down various items of furniture or equipment within established weight limits. Repairs or replace furniture and equipment when needed.
  • Conducts routine inspections of various types of building equipment as directed by administration, including: HVAC systems (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) Electrical panels and lighting fixtures Plumbing fixtures Fire safety equipment (alarms, extinguishers, sprinkler systems) Security systems (cameras, alarms, access controls) Boilers and water heaters Emergency generators and backup power supplies Interior and exterior structural components
  • Daily water safety testing at Elementary School
  • Report any abnormality to the supervisor/school principal.
  • Perform minor repairs to buildings as needed, including basic plumbing, electrical, and structural maintenance. Materials to be provided by administration.
  • Inventories and dispenses routine material and supplies when needed.
  • Monitor school buildings and grounds for security and safety conditions. Maintain cleanliness of buildings and premises, including sidewalks and adjoining school areas. Perform minor snow removal as needed, such as spot clearing after major snow removal has been completed by the snow removal company.
  • Follow up, if needed, on snow and ice removal to ensure clear access to school properties for the safety of all school employees and students. Ensure that an adequate salt supply is kept at all locations in case of a snow emergency.
  • Maintained records, reports, daily equipment, facility checks, and other reports assigned.
  • Report major repairs that cannot be handled in house to the Principal, contractors, and to vendors.
  • Assist with scheduled group activities and non-school-related events (e.g., dances, parties), primarily by supporting event coordination and ensuring compliance with facility use agreement and set up.
  • Respond to emergencies and be on call by fire alarm monitor, fire department, police, during work hours, etc.
  • Any additional duties that may be assigned by the principal, pastor, or bookkeeper.
