About The Position

The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure the proper functioning and safety of Mercy House facilities, Shelters and PSH scattered sites. This role involves troubleshooting and resolving issues related to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general building maintenance while adhering to safety regulations and company standards. The Maintenance Specialist works closely with other departments to address maintenance needs efficiently and may also coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs. This position requires some travel to the various regions in which Mercy House operates.

Requirements

  • Basic carpentry, drywall repair, interior and exterior painting, plumbing repair, drain clearing, electrical installation and repair, appliance troubleshooting and repair, key making, HVAC maintenance, restorations and remodeling, sprinkler system programming and repairs
  • Must be detail oriented with accurate data entry skills; intermediate computer literacy of Microsoft office (including word and excel)
  • General Reliable transportation required
  • A flexible work schedule including some schedule changes, some weekends, and evening shifts to meet the department’s needs
  • Detail-oriented and computer proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel required
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently to deliver quality work within deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and Administration Work with Supervisor to create and implement preventative maintenance
  • Complete general inspections to assess and maintain internal/external systems that may include fire protection/sprinkler systems, smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, elevator, stairways, major appliances, lighting, landscaping/tree trimming, roofing/gutters, backflow, and drainage processes
  • Assist with the bidding process, selection and oversight of subcontractors or perform work normally assigned to a subcontractor based on the skill set of employees
  • Complete assigned maintenance tasks which may include purchasing needed supplies, electrical/plumbing/ carpentry/ drywall/HVAC repairs, painting/graffiti removal, appliance repair/installation, unit turnovers, roofing repair needs and/or removing debris on roof; grounds work/landscaping
  • Close out work order requests and update information in work order log as completed
  • Maintain furnishings, equipment, and facility keys
  • Assist Supervisor to respond, Coordinate and schedule work orders as needed
  • Documentation and submission of daily reports
  • Assist with the bidding process for needed vendors and approved vendor list
  • Assist Supervisor in closing out work order request and update work order log when needed
  • Safety/Physical Standards and Workmanship Ability to work safely under OSHA safety requirements
  • Ability to wear personal protective gear/clothing correctly during the day
  • Ability to meet physical requirements which include, but are not limited to lifting (up to 50 lbs. regularly), pulling, repetitive bending, stooping, and reaching
  • Ability to climb a ladder while carrying 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather
  • Ability to move safely over uneven terrain
  • Post “CAUTION” signage for safety hazards and recommend immediate plan to correct
  • Work with your team members to implement the mission and ensure quality service delivery
  • Provide support and guidance to staff when necessary
  • Miscellaneous Attend staff meetings and quarterly trainings
  • Enhance job performance by applying up-to-date professional and technical knowledge gained by attending seminars, benchmarking, and reviewing professional publications/sites
