About The Position

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Maintenance Specialist. - Boca Raton, FL. The Maintenance Specialist will provide functional leadership for facility maintenance to the areas of Campus Recreation and the Student Union. This position is considered an essential employee. In severe weather or emergency situations, the University may suspend classes or close the University. This position would be expected to remain at or report to their facilities as soon as conditions reasonably permit. Summary of responsibilities: Facility Maintenance: Responsible for day-to-day work order response and maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule for identified buildings/areas. Repairs can include but may not be all inclusive of minor repairs and/or replacement of plumbing repairs such as fixtures, valves, flushometers, traps; electrical repairs to fixtures or devices, defective bulbs, switches, fuses and receptacles in buildings; HVAC work and repairs such as regulate steam or hot water equipment, thermostats; assist with other HVAC, carpentry, painting and other building related mechanical and structural devices. Prepares cost estimates and maintains records of job/project costs. Organizes requests for the purchase of tools, equipment, and materials. Conduct daily building and field walks to ensure areas are safe, secure, and well-maintained, addressing concerns as needed. Provide guidance and recommendations for all building systems, repairs, and collaboration with campus partners for repairs and preventative maintenance. Be knowledgeable and experienced in multiple trades and have a clear understanding of what is involved when making repairs. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and standards, as well as campus safety, security, and facilities maintenance protocols. Assist with the maintenance needs on partner campuses and other building spaces as needed. Planning and Strategic Initiatives: Assist with all emergency procedures, including emergency weather response plans. Assist with the development and management of the annual budget for all facility maintenance. Coordinate services with departmental leadership and campus partners, including service contracts, preventative maintenance schedules, capital projects, and record-keeping. Provide on-call support for all emergency-related maintenance items for any on-campus facility. Perform other job-related duties as necessary to accomplish the responsibilities of the position.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and five years of appropriate experience required.
  • Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
