About The Position

The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for a Maintenance Specialist, Building/Facility/Construction, Journey 2/Lead, for the Goose Creek Correctional Center, located in Mackenzie Point, Alaska. Watch Alaska DOC's video here: Facilities 30 Second Cut What you will be doing: Under the supervision of the Maintenance Specialist Foreman at GCCC, the primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Conduct routine and non-routine inspections and perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair on all HVAC equipment, ventilation system, refrigeration, air conditioners, chillers, freezers, coolers, and heat pumps located in or around GCCC. Install, maintain, service and repair equipment such as electric motors, heaters, coolers, refrigerators, freezers, compressors, water heaters and plumbing facilities using hand and power tools of the maintenance trade. Advise supervisor for ordering purposes when parts are needed; assure parts are readily available when needed. The working environment you can expect: Goose Creek Correctional Center is a minimum/medium custody facility that houses up to 1500 inmates and employs over 350 staff. You will be working in an institutional setting with inmates daily. Requirements

Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license.
All Department of Corrections employees are required to be fingerprinted.
The successful candidate must pass a criminal history check.
