About The Position

The heavy equipment lead mechanic is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of various heavy equipment, such as excavators, bulldozers, off-road rock trucks, and rollers. This role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues, and extensive knowledge in hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education required
  • 5 years of experience working in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, with at least 2 years in a leadership role (preferred)
  • Proficiency in hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Basic computer skills, including knowledge of maintenance software programs
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must provide own tools
  • Ability to stand, sit, or kneel for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and exposure to noise and vibration from equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a certified technical school program in heavy equipment maintenance or related field (preferred)
  • 5 years of experience working in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, with at least 2 years in a leadership role (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of mechanics in performing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment to ensure they are functioning optimally
  • Provide training and guidance to junior mechanics on maintenance procedures and corrective measures
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues using diagnostic tools and equipment
  • Implement preventative maintenance programs to extend the lifespan of equipment
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair orders, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols and procedures
  • Communicate with management to provide updates on equipment status and maintenance needs
  • Manage inventory of spare parts and equipment, ensuring an adequate supply is always available
  • Stay current on industry trends and advancements in heavy equipment technology
