About The Position

APM Terminals The Maintenance Shift Manager services as the technical control point for shift-based maintenance execution, ensuring rapid diagnosis, prioritization, and restoration of equipment critical to vessel and terminal operations. This role manages and coordinates maintenance resources, workflows, and equipment handover to sustain asset reliability, minimize operational impact, and ensure all work and learnings are accurately captured in CMMS, while driving standardized practice and cross-functional technical collaboration to optimize asset performance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a single point of contact for operations teams to report equipment breakdowns or faults.
  • Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders to ensure swift diagnostics, timely action, sustained asset performance and predict any vessel impact.
  • Responsible for coordinating the equipment assigned to vessel operations, based on operational needs and in alignment with Local Reliability, Planning, and Equipment Managers.
  • Responsible for dispatching resources from breakdown teams efficiently to restore equipment to service safely and efficiently where possible
  • Responsible for coordinating handover of equipment from Operations to Maintenance for all planned and unplanned work
  • Ensure all details and learnings from equipment breakdown response and repair activities are recorded within the CMMS
  • Collaborate and share technical knowledge and experience with other members of the Terminal Asset Maintenance and operation team, through standardized procedures to enhance performance and reduce variation.
  • Manage daily maintenance priorities and workflows with due consideration of breakdowns and urgent work requirements
  • Provide day to day organization of work, moving scheduled work from the planning stage to work order (WO) dispatch, whilst incorporating breakdowns and urgent work requirements
  • Adhere to and promote safety procedures that will produce zero lost time accidents; maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Support APM Terminal’s HSSE and Community Outreach programs and events.
  • Promote good working relationships between internal and external stakeholders, including other terminal departments and transient Union workforce.
  • Performs additional position-related duties as specified by management.
  • Always consider safety of personnel and assets when assisting with breakdowns and dispatching breakdown teams.
  • Ensure compliance with HSSE policies and procedures, enforcing safe working practices and promoting a safe workplace.
  • Contribute to maintaining a strong safety culture through the use problem solving and continuous improvement (LEAN) tools to drive the reduction of unplanned equipment outages.
  • Ensure all Forces and Bypasses are safe to apply following the defined list and update if any improvement or risk.
  • Assist with equipment incident investigations, where these occur.
  • Effectively manage and provide direction to mechanics responsible for troubleshooting down equipment by rapidly assessing operational risk and impact while considering Terminal priorities.
  • Ensure mechanics are proactively monitoring maintenance status of assets and provide guidance and direction when needed.
  • Responsible for proactively managing equipment to include breakdown management, asset performance updates, asset coordination and allocation, escalation, organizing managing resources and support services, cost control, implementing continuous improvement strategies, coordinating equipment handover from Ops to Asset Maintenance.
  • Conduct live equipment monitoring and predict asset failure and business impact.
  • Routinely liaise with Operations and Equipment Asset Managers on equipment performance and breakdowns providing a single point of contact for breakdown response.
  • Escalation of breakdowns and communicate with response teams, organize resources and support services to ensure a rapid recovery of equipment functionality
  • Optimize the AM intervention based on Vessel Windows and berthing Gaps.
  • Provide appropriate technical knowledge to improve Equipment operator and reduce the non-technical breakdowns (Assistance Operation).
  • Deliver technical knowledge and structured training through standardized procedures to enhance technical performance, reduce variability, and support effective restorative maintenance across all types of electrical equipment installed at the terminal.
  • Ensure consistent application and follow-up of best practices in electrical equipment maintenance, repair and fault investigation, in alignment with APMT maintenance procedures, standards, and OEM requirements.
  • Apply the global procedures for Unplanned (breakdown) Maintenance, making localized adjustments and enhancements, (where appropriate), minimizing time to repair and restoring equipment to safe and functional condition.
  • Oversee and own the daily execution of maintenance work orders through 3RD party maintenance company, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Progress Assessment: Track the status of ongoing maintenance tasks, providing task updates to equipment managers, operations, and other stakeholders
  • Documentation & Reporting: Ensure accurate documentation of completed work, including labor hours, follow up work, and any deviations from the plan.
  • Track MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) & effectiveness of breakdown response.
  • Monitor and act on breakdown related KPIs and exception reports.
  • Responsible for confirming deployed resources from Union and Service teams that are enroute or in place to efficiently restore equipment to service where possible
  • Ensure the learning from equipment breakdowns is transferred throughout Asset Maintenance within the local terminal.
  • Support internal (with terminals and other discipline specialists) and global Asset Maintenance to ensure that best practices for breakdown response are applied at the terminal.
  • Ensure the recording of all improvement and RCA.
  • Support an ongoing review process for the policies, procedures and guidelines for equipment reliability and breakdown management, which will support APMT in sustaining safe operation of all terminal equipment
  • Enhance asset integrity through increased equipment reliability.
  • Organize and share the breakdown team resources to supplement the workforce.
  • Ensure details of all equipment breakdown events are recorded in the CMMS.
  • In partnership with PCMC Management, hold mechanics accountable for performing their roles and responsibilities by giving clear direction and providing on-the-job coaching and training where needed. Also responsible for the discipline of labor up to recommending termination to address and correct poor job performance.
  • Enhance and promote best practice in terminal breakdown maintenance by ensuring the correct knowledge, skills and resources are available within the breakdown team(s).
  • Work collaboratively with other Asset Maintenance disciplines and terminal staff to ensure that the safe and efficient operation of the terminal equipment is always sustained, and that maximum benefits are achieved in the control of quality and costs
  • Driving the standardization journey, sharing skills and knowledge and best practice for electrical installations, PLC, Drives and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure clear communication with different stakeholders in control room, AM team and managements.
  • Ensure compliance with APMT Group values and business principles.
  • Collaborate with Union Workforce, AM managers, supervisors and technical staff to drive down maintenance costs and optimize the breakdown maintenance response and processes.
