About The Position

The Maintenance Program Manager ensures the safety, reliability, and performance of campus facilities by leading maintenance teams and managing and coordinating contractual work with external vendors and service providers. The role involves managing and optimizing preventive and predictive maintenance programs, tracking and planning deferred maintenance initiatives, and ensuring compliance with safety objectives and regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities include overseeing contracted building service programs (e.g. fire protection, elevators, roofing, pest control), negotiating, monitoring, and evaluating contractor performance, improving maintenance tracking, and mentoring staff. By integrating internal teams with engineers, project managers, and contractors, this role enhances operational efficiency and sustains high-performing campus infrastructure. Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, facilities management, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education
  • At least four years of experience in facilities maintenance, building systems, engineering, utilities operations, or related infrastructure support role
  • Experience supervising teams in a related field
  • Experience coordinating contractors or vendor services
  • Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the above qualifications
  • Strong understanding of campus operations and academic environments
  • Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing) and maintenance practices
  • Familiarity with CMMS software and space management tools
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment

Nice To Haves

  • At least five years of experience in facilities maintenance, building systems, engineering, utilities operations, or related infrastructure support role
  • Extensive, hands-on experience maintaining commercial or institutional building systems
  • Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Experience working within higher education or large campus environments
