About The Position

Winpak Portion Packaging is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to join the Maintenance team based out of Sauk Village, IL on Night shift. In this hands-on role, you will help keep production equipment, support systems, and the facility running safely and efficiently. This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys troubleshooting mechanical issues, completing repairs, supporting changeovers, and working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where reliability and safety matter every day.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience performing mechanical maintenance in a manufacturing, production, industrial, or similar hands-on environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and replace worn or damaged machine parts.
  • Experience using hand tools and shop equipment to complete repairs safely and accurately.
  • Ability to read gauges, follow maintenance procedures, and support equipment changeovers.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crawling, stair climbing, and ladder climbing.
  • Ability to work safely and follow sanitation, quality, and food safety requirements in a manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, air compressors, chillers, or cooling units.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting experience, including changing fuses, plugs, outlets, or starters.
  • Welding, brazing, soldering, or light fabrication experience.
  • Forklift experience or the ability to become forklift certified.
  • Experience supporting maintenance work in a food, packaging, plastics, or other regulated manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair production equipment, including pneumatic, mechanical, and basic electrical components.
  • Replace or repair parts such as bearings, belts, pulleys, chains, fittings, hoses, filters, pumps, motors, switches, guards, and related machine components.
  • Support tooling work by helping inspect, change, and maintain punches, dies, cavities, plugs, and air cylinders.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine service on chillers, mold cooling units, water systems, air compressors, hydraulic systems, and heating or cooling equipment.
  • Assist with machine changeovers and confirm gauges and related equipment are working properly before production starts.
  • Complete building and facilities maintenance tasks such as replacing filters, patching roof areas, changing locks, minor carpentry, and other general repairs.
  • Use maintenance tools and equipment safely, including hand tools, saws, drill presses, forklifts, and electric hoists, as required for the job.
  • Perform basic welding, light fabrication, brazing, or soldering work to support repairs and equipment upkeep.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas and request replacement parts and supplies as needed.
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and company safety requirements and report any food packaging safety concerns to plant leadership.
