About The Position

About the role Starts devices to test their performance. Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble. Dismantles and repairs mechanical and electrical devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools. Inspects parts to determine salvage ability or method of repairing or reworking parts. Prepares and operates metal-working tools, such as engine lathes, milling, drilling, grinding, polishing, and buffing machines to repair parts. Files, taps, reams, bends, straightens, or uses other methods to recondition parts, using hand tools. Verifies dimensions and tolerances, using blueprints, scale, and precision-measuring instruments. Initiate purchase order for parts and machines. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges. Lubricates and cleans parts. Maintain preventative maintenance records for machinery and equipment.

Requirements

  • Ability to: troubleshoot machines to diagnose problems
  • demonstrate knowledge of European wiring on various machines
  • demonstrate knowledge of basic electrical codes including knowledge of pulling wire, electrical components, switches, high voltage, and control centers
  • read and interpret schematics, plans, and operating manuals
  • fit fluid lines and pipes
  • assemble and disassemble parts and systems
  • “think outside of the box” and figure out problems associated with production operations
  • Must have extensive set of personal tools that are appropriate for the trade
  • Must have the physical strength and ability to safely perform the required duties, which involve moderate to heavy physical exertion.
  • Must also be able to stoop, bend, twist and climb up onto the overhead cranes and other equipment while also being able to work in tight spaces.
  • Must be willing and able to perform assigned maintenance duties in adverse weather.
  • High school or equivalent, trade school preferred
  • 5-10 years’ experience as a manufacturing maintenance mechanic
