Trinity Health Livonia is a beautiful full-service, 304-bed acute care hospital, located in Livonia, MI, that provides comprehensive care, including a 24-hour emergency department, general medicine, inpatient and outpatient surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, intensive care unit, cancer, cardiology, geriatrics and birthing and women's health. GENERAL SUMMARY: Inspects assigned areas of the building and grounds including furnishings and equipment maintained by the department. Performs repairs and tasks, as assigned by the Director of Facilities, using proper equipment and safe working procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Trade school of equivalent
  • Valid Michigan driver's license. Application licenses preferred.
  • Knowledge and adeptness in use of building trades, tools, and equipment.
  • Two years of formal maintenance related education, or five years institutional maintenance experience.
  • Refrigeration certificate may be required.
  • Must have knowledge or electrical sections of public building and safety codes.
  • Must be familiar with and able to use repair tool kits, test meters, and schematic drawings.
  • Must be familiar with different types or maintenance equipment.
  • Lift and carry supplies, equipment, materials, ladders, and tools up to 80 lbs.
  • Pushing and pulling of carts and the handling materials up to 600 lbs.
  • Climbing ladders up to 20 feet.
  • Manipulating tools and controls accurately.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling to repair equipment.
  • Ability to handle hand tools correctly.
  • Near-visual acuity necessary to measure and read equipment scales.
  • Color vision necessary to match color coding on components.
  • Ability to respond to emergency using stairs, if necessary.
  • Normal susceptibility to current flow through body tissue.
  • The ability to follow procedures; hospital departmental, call in and emergency.
  • Communicates in a helpful proactive manner.
  • Ability to work with other individuals productively, in a team setting.
  • Numerical ability required to perform mathematical calculations for pipe fitting functions, fuel calculations, and other engineering functions.
  • Spatial perception required when working from blueprints to repair equipment.
  • Form perception required in inspecting and fitting parts for equipment.
  • Motor coordination, manual and finger dexterity required by building codes.
  • Alertness necessary to observe the general operation of the facility and make necessary adjustments to maintain the safe operation of the facility.
  • Willingness to work in noisy, dirty, and warm areas near high pressure steam boilers, and to perform repetitive manual tasks on a continuous basis.
  • Ability to work under general supervision following standard procedures.
  • Pass a competency assessment and training test.

Responsibilities

  • Receives work assignments at beginning of shift and is on job within 15 minutes.
  • Throughout the remainder of shift, receives additional work orders from “unassigned” file and/or over the radio. Reports to those jobs within 20 minutes of receiving the job. Works well unsupervised.
  • Fills out and turns in all work orders as to status and work performed when completed. Advises Supervisor when job is not complete and fills out deferred status record.
  • Troubleshoots, adjusts and makes repairs to all kinds of electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoots, adjusts and makes repairs to all kinds of mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of hospital equipment and can repair most non-clinical equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance as assigned.
  • Performs PM’s as assigned and completes by the end of the month for which they are assigned.
  • Excellent knowledge of the incoming utilities serving the facility and how they are distributed throughout the facility.
  • Hollows Safety and Department Policies & Procedures when working on equipment and in and around Medical Center.
