GENERAL SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, coordinates the daily activities of assigned staff and ensures the validity of test results. Performs specialized and/or innovative testing and analyses. Serves as a technical resource person providing guidance and direction to staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science
  • Registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, MT (ASCP) National Certifying Agency or registered in specialty area or equivalent
  • Minimum of four (4) to five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Blood Bank/Transfusion Services, one or two years in a leadership role preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • A high level of organization is expected along with attention to detail and follow-thru.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact with a variety of laboratory personnel, patients and other medical professionals.
  • Leadership skills to provide guidance to a group of technical and non-technical staff.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and positively with all levels of management, all external contacts including physicians and patients.
  • Exceptional problem-solving ability is required with an emphasis on solving system-related problems.
  • A high level of organization is expected along with an attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job including personal computers, laboratory information system, printers, faxes and telephones
  • Must know payroll system and complete payroll requirements daily.
