About The Position

Sign on bonus eligible! We seek a dedicated individual who will be responsible for performing various mechanical maintenance, and repair work, on rotating machinery and plant equipment. The mechanic will inspect and adjust the mechanical alignment, replacement, or rebuilding of pumps; replace bearings and motors; repair screw conveyors; rebuild or change gearboxes; install and modify pipe lines; and assist in the modification and addition of plant projects. This position reports to the Mechanical Supervisor.

Requirements

  • To be considered for this position, the individual must have at least five years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and a high school diploma/GED.
  • Capable of interpreting blueprints; basic welding competencies.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, along with problem solving and decision-making ability.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, allowing for the repair of precision equipment, safely and effectively, while working in awkward locations/positions.
  • Fundamental computer skills and knowledge of standard operating and safety procedures.
  • Will work a 8-hr day shift schedule, M-F, that can include some weekends.
  • May also be scheduled on some holidays, during planned outages, and to help with vacation coverage.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb
  • Ability to lift/carry 50lbs
  • Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces
  • Qualify to wear a full-face respirator
  • Consistently work in various weather conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Formal technical or apprenticeship training is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and adjusts the mechanical alignment, balance level, and general condition of conveyors, compressors, boilers, pumps, water treatment equipment, stokers, fans, turbines, diesel engines, gear reducers, and other rotating equipment throughout the plant, as required.
  • Checks, repairs, adjusts, or replaces couplings, bearings and mounts.
  • Fabricates and welds, to standard platforms and chutes, and performs other non-pressure vessel code welding procedures.
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks, including routine vibration tests, thermography, and ultrasonic testing.
  • Actively participates in the periodic teardown and internal inspection of major equipment.
  • Utilizes various shop equipment in the performance of assigned tasks, such as the repair or rebuilding of soot blower devices, gearboxes, speed reducers, pumps, and other assemblies.
  • Reads and interprets measuring tools, graphs, and technical manuals.
  • Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Keeps work area clean, safe and orderly.
