About The Position

Thompson Pipe Group is looking for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour ) to install, troubleshoot, clean, inspect, and maintain mechanical equipment throughout the facility in a safe and productive manner. Part of this includes doing preventive maintenance on equipment, changing outwear parts, and recording of damage or miss-use of equipment.

Requirements

  • Understand basic electrical and hydraulic schematics
  • Properly use tools like electrical meters, hydraulic gauges, and lifting equipment
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds
  • Welding/fabrication experience
  • Must know how to safely work around and with heavy equipment/object
  • Able to measure accurately with calipers, feeler gauges, and tape measures
  • Be willing to do some out of town travel (usually less than 5 days per trip)
  • Be able to work 40+hours per week

  • Relevant: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Manufacturing environment: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Forklift Driving: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Repairing Forklifts weighing 5,000lbs-80,000lbs
  • Repaired Heavy Equipment: Cranes
  • Welding: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Ability to arc welding and cutting torch experience
  • Service Tech: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Ability to read simple electrical / mechanical drawings
  • Communicates effectively

Responsibilities

  • Participate in safety programs
  • working to repair and maintain air compressors, dryers, trucks, forklifts and pallet jacks. Assists with installation of new equipment.
  • Maintain all job site equipment in a good, clean, orderly condition and reports all deficiencies to supervisor
  • Maintains and cleans equipment, performs required inspections, completes paperwork, and assumes accountability
  • Dismantle equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists,
  • Follow OSHA and HAZMAT rules and regulations
  • Take proactive steps to make improvements to plant equipment and processes.
  • Follow standard safety procedures, correct safety and environmental hazards, and report them to supervision as necessary.
  • Recommend improvements in maintenance methods, working to reduce cost of replacement/repair whenever possible
  • Lubricate & clean parts
  • Test and troubleshoot malfunctioning machinery, determine repairs and discuss with Head Mechanic for approval and repair as needed
  • Ability to operate welder, cutting torch, electrical/power and manual hand tools for repairs.
  • Be able to fix minor electrical problems
  • This position will require overtime during planned maintenance outages and during plant outages.
  • Reads, understands, and applies information such as lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, pre-job briefings, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals.
