About The Position

Chemours is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to join their growing Georgia team at the Mission mine site in Winokur, GA. This position reports to the Maintenance First Line Supervisor. The role involves safely performing highly skilled maintenance, installation, repair, and troubleshooting work on process equipment and mechanical systems for mining and mineral processing facilities that operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The primary goal is to maximize equipment availability and reduce downtime. The Mechanic will support active operations by safely and efficiently maintaining, servicing, installing, and replacing water and slurry pumps, screeners, conveyors, bins, valves, and other mineral processing wear parts. This includes installing, replacing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining process equipment, as well as performing preventive maintenance activities. The preferred candidate is an experienced and qualified industrial mechanic capable of working closely with maintenance and operations teams in a mining and mineral processing environment.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Specialized training in mechanical, maintenance or a related field.
  • Regularly required to use hands, fingers, and feet in a coordinated effort to move levers and turn dials to safely maintain plant equipment.
  • Frequently ascends or descends ladders, stairs, elevated walkways, ramps and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Perform heavy manual labor when needed such as moving equipment and supplies around the Plant area in different weather conditions.
  • Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods (4-6 hours).
  • Frequently lifts or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts or moves up to 50 pounds.
  • Position requires working near and around operating mechanical parts and mobile equipment and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibrations.
  • Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Capable of wearing personal protective equipment, such as hearing protectors and fall protection, as necessary.
  • Skills in reading complex instructions required.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Journeyman Millwright certification or equivalent.
  • Welding and rigging certification.
  • +5-years of plant/industrial maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a self-guided manner in the absence of supervision and demonstrate creativity, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate initiative.
  • Report all personal injuries and EHS incidents and assist with both safety and environmental investigations.
  • Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in all assigned areas.
  • Ability to read equipment specifications, OEM maintenance manuals and requirements, diagrams, interpret blueprints and technical drawings to correctly assemble and maintain equipment.
  • Requisition material and supplies from stockroom; call vendors to discuss needs for parts and supplies and recommend purchases and suppliers.
  • Monitor work done by outside contractors for adherence with company safety and quality standards.
  • Support down-day planning to accomplish required work per agreed cost and schedule.
  • Offer guidance and support to other maintenance personnel to further develop in-house technical expertise.
