About The Position

This is a Maintenance Mechanic position at Escambia County Health Department (Escambia CHD), working under the direct supervision of the Facility Manager I - SES. The incumbent will be responsible for providing maintenance repairs, equipment repairs, vehicle inspections, and occasional delivery of interoffice mail to all outlying locations in support of clinical operations for all Escambia CHD locations. The role requires arranging and prioritizing daily schedules for routine duties and work orders, maintaining a valid driver’s license, and ensuring the security of all records within their area of responsibility. The incumbent will also serve as a "Purchasing card user for Facilities/Information Technologies," requiring adherence to state laws and guidelines for purchases, maintaining transaction logs, obtaining and forwarding receipts, and preparing/tracking requisitions. Travel may be required. The position encompasses a wide range of maintenance tasks including surveying and executing repairs or improvements in building cosmetics, plumbing, HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, VAVs, air handlers, pumps, split units), and electrical systems (light fixtures, bulbs, ballasts, outlets). Additionally, the role involves renovations and relocations of office equipment and furniture, equipment maintenance (pressure washers, drills, compressors, battery chargers, ice machines), weekly vehicle maintenance and logbook upkeep for seven Escambia CHD vehicles, daily groundskeeping, courier duties for mail and biomedical waste, and escorting contractors. Safety of employees and clients is a highest priority throughout all processes. The incumbent will also inspect fire extinguishers, respond to fire alarms/drills, and assist with property inventory and management.

Requirements

  • 0-1 year of work experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to construct objects, structures, and buildings.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce motion, light, power, technology, and other applications.
  • Ability in Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
  • Ability in Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
  • Ability in Performing routine maintenance and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Ability in Determining what is causing an operating error and deciding what to do about it.

Responsibilities

  • Provide maintenance repairs, equipment repairs, vehicle inspections, occasional delivery of interoffice mail to all outlying locations in support of clinical operations for all Escambia CHD locations.
  • Arrange and prioritize daily schedule to include daily/weekly routine duties as well as work orders submitted by staff.
  • Be responsible for the security of all records maintained within their area of responsibility at Escambia CHD.
  • Act as a "Purchasing card user for Facilities/Information Technologies", following appropriate state laws and guidelines, using reasonable judgment when making purchases.
  • Maintain Purchasing Card Transaction Log.
  • Obtain, sign and forward original purchasing card receipts and any required supporting documentation to the approver.
  • Prepare and track requisitions for facilities unit.
  • Track vendor usages to assure expenditure limits are not exceeded.
  • Survey Escambia CHD facilities for areas that need repair or improvements in the area of building cosmetics.
  • Make suggestions or recommendations relative to building repairs/improvements.
  • Provide a list of materials required and execute building repairs or improvements, including wall repairs, surface preparation for painting, painting, and pressure washing sidewalks and buildings.
  • Provide support not provided by the landlord in leased facilities.
  • Repair or enhance facilities to the level required to provide the best possible services to the public, ensuring the safety of employees and clients.
  • Survey Escambia CHD facilities for areas that need repair or improvements in the area of plumbing.
  • Make suggestions or recommendations relative to plumbing repairs.
  • Provide a list of materials required and execute plumbing repairs or improvements, including maintenance and repair of faucets, Hands-Free faucets, toilets/urinals, toilet drains, sink drains, and floor drains, ensuring safety.
  • Survey Escambia CHD facilities for areas that need repair or improvements in the area of all HVAC Systems.
  • Make suggestions or recommendations relative to HVAC repairs.
  • Provide a list of materials required and execute HVAC repairs or improvements, including maintenance and repair of Chillers (cleaning cooling coils), Boilers, VAV’s (flushing out condensation lines), replacing Air Handler belts, replacing hot or chilled water pumps, and cleaning split units.
  • Replace and clean air filters in rural clinic offices and vacuum return air ducts in main facility, ensuring safety.
  • Survey Escambia CHD facilities for areas that need repair or improvements in the area of electrical.
  • Make suggestions or recommendations relative to electrical repairs.
  • Provide a list of materials required and execute electrical repairs or improvements, including maintenance and repair of light fixtures, replacing light bulbs, replacing ballasts, replacing emergency lighting ballasts, and replacing electrical outlets or outlets covers, ensuring safety.
  • Relocate modular office equipment and furniture upon request by employees and the approval of their supervisor.
  • Notify Property Custodian of all tagged property that is moved and its new location.
  • Arrange conference rooms for meetings/training as requested by Escambia CHD staff.
  • In coordination with other facilities staff, perform multiple office moves upon supervisor approval, ensuring safety.
  • Survey Escambia CHD equipment for areas that need repair or improvements.
  • Make suggestions or recommendations relative to equipment repairs.
  • Provide a list of materials required and execute equipment repairs or improvements, including maintenance and repair of pressure washers, drills, compressors, battery chargers, and ice machines, ensuring safety.
  • On a weekly basis, check all fluid levels, tire pressure, and physically inspect the condition of the exterior of seven Escambia CHD vehicles.
  • Report and repair any discrepancies to their supervisor regarding vehicles.
  • Deliver and pick up vehicles from the contracted maintenance facility when preventative/corrective maintenance is required.
  • Maintain a vehicle logbook documenting all repairs and services provided for each vehicle, ensuring safety.
  • On a daily basis, walk the facility grounds for trash.
  • Maintain the grounds of all Escambia CHD facilities which are not in the scope of the contracted landscaping vendor, including repairing or replacing irrigation sprinkler heads, watering grounds as needed, cleaning areas of debris and keeping grounds in clean and orderly state, ensuring safety.
  • Utilize Escambia CHD vehicles, as required, to make trips to rural clinics delivering mail.
  • Ensure the safeguard of confidential information and materials routinely transported.
  • Transport biomedical waste between locations.
  • Move and deliver bulk supplies, printed matter, and equipment to and from all locations.
  • Verify and sign for cash receipts and other secure documents.
  • Store and retrieve medical records from the storage at the request of Records Management Officer, ensuring safety.
  • Escort contractors throughout Escambia CHD facilities for them to be able to perform either preventative maintenance or repairs, ensuring safety.
  • Inspect fire extinguishers at all locations on a regular, routine basis.
  • Report fire extinguisher deficiencies to facilities management staff for recharging or service.
  • Serve as a primary responder for fire alarms and drills.
  • Assist facilities management staff in maintaining list of all property and tools purchased for use by the facilities staff to execute facility support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
