About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for supervisory work or highly skilled work in the general maintenance, repair and/or construction of buildings, related equipment, and plumbing, heating/cooling, and/or electrical systems. Position responsibilities also include: Work requires the exercise of initiative and judgment in the application of various technical trade skills to a variety of maintenance, repair and/or construction problems and in determining the extent of repair or replacement work to be done. Work usually involves supervision of employees engaged in journeyman level work involving electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air, carpentry, cabinet making, roofing, painting, or other trades. Employee may perform a wide variety of highly technical tasks independently at and above the journeyman level. Dan River Prison Work Farm is in Blanch, NC. The facility sits on a 187.5-acre site in the north-central area of Caswell County and houses felon and misdemeanant minimum custody adult male offenders. Work assignments include food service, maintenance, janitorial and other institutional jobs. Other assignments include maintenance work at Caswell Correctional Center and the offender construction program.

Requirements

  • Documented working knowledge of commercial/industrial maintenance.
  • Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification.
  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and two (2) years of experience in the performance of the full range of journey level tasks associated with two (2) or more highly complex mechanical or building trades; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
