About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Tyrrell Prison Work Farm This position will perform the full range of journey work duties associated with the preventive and routine maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems. May be required to assist in other maintenance areas as needed.

Requirements

• High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.

Responsibilities

• This position maintains the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning equipment, installs new equipment, charge system refrigerants, replaces bearings, seals, and filters, lubricates as necessary and adjusts and balances the distribution system.
• This position maintains electronic/pneumatic equipment, performs all necessary testing, trouble shooting, and alignment repair of electrical/pneumatic system.
• Positions are expected to identify the cause of the problem, determine materials and tools needed and method of repair, and carry out repair procedures independently on most jobs.
• The HVAC Mechanic performs preventive maintenance functions as required and outlined in the preventative maintenance plans.
• Employee may train and/or supervise the work of offender helpers.
