About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) is the largest state agency and is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons, Correction Enterprises, Division of Community Corrections, and Reentry Programs and Services. We have a mission that matters! The NCDAC / Support Services / Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) is recruiting for an energized and collaborative Maintenance/Construction Technician III (Regional Maintenance Technician), to be a part of the Mountain Regional Maintenance Team. This position will have a duty station at the Western Correctional Center for Women (WCCW) in Black Mountain, NC and will be tasked with completing general preventative maintenance, generator repairs & service and like-in-kind Force Account system replacements. A successful candidate for this Maintenance/Construction Technician III (Regional Maintenance Technician) position, shall have journeyman level experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of general systems, systems, equipment, and machinery; be able to work independently to complete work assignments received by a supervisor; read and interpret blueprints; and perform other assigned duties. This position requires the daily commute to Western Correctional Center for Women (WCCW) in Black Mountain, NC. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The work schedule is Monday – Friday and may require some weekend work and overnight travel to meet the demands of the organization. Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in one or more journeyman level construction trade skills within concrete, masonry, carpentry, site work, painting, finishes, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and/or equipment operation.
  • Demonstrated experience in the installation of primary and secondary electrical conduit and circuitry for electrical distribution systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with standard testing equipment to diagnose electrical components.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Experience with reading schematics and blueprints.
  • Experience with the tools, methods, practices, materials, and equipment used within the general construction trades relating to the maintenance of buildings.
