About The Position

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees. The Piedmont Triad Farmers Market, operated by the NCDA&CS, is one of North Carolina’s premier destinations for fresh, local agriculture. Open seven days a week, year round, the Market connects hundreds of growers from across North Carolina and neighboring states with more than a million visitors annually. Shoppers enjoy a safe, clean, and inviting environment while exploring an ever changing selection of locally grown fruits, vegetables, meats, plants, and specialty farm products. We are seeking a dedicated team member to help maintain the exceptional standards our visitors and vendors rely on. This position plays a key role in the upkeep of our buildings and grounds, including plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, mowing, pruning, fertilizing, and spraying. The role also includes maintaining market equipment through service record management and minor repairs. Your work ensures the Market remains a vibrant, welcoming, and well-functioning community space for all.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of a variety of trades.
  • Skills to operate general lawn maintenance equipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to tolerate hot and cold temperatures as most of the work is outside.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical tasks for extended periods of time.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience associated with a variety of mechanical or building trades; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
