About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Maintenance & Engineering, Maintenance Mechanic B will perform routine and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities equipment.

Requirements

  • Education Requirement: The individual should possess a high school diploma or equivalent GED certificate combined with basic experience in building/Facilities maintenance.
  • Technical/Computer Skills: Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office computer programs, including Word and Outlook, as well as the internet.
  • Familiarity with mobile devices such as iPod or iPad for daily work assignments and reporting.
  • Prior Experience: The individual should possess a minimum of one year (1+) experience in the maintenance field.
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations is essential.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written directives given in English and possess good communication skills and possess the ability to interact with building/office occupants effectively.
  • Physical & Environmental Demands: Extensive walking to and from various buildings on campus.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and climb ladders.
  • Work is performed both inside and outside, under various types of weather conditions.
  • Certain working conditions may be wet, as well as hot or cold.
  • Work in spaces that may contain physical and noise hazards.

Nice To Haves

  • A technical degree with continuing education in new and emerging maintenance technologies is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Executes Preventative Maintenance (PM), routine and emergency work orders on mechanical systems as assigned, including, but not limited to: air handling equipment, pumps, boilers, and heat exchangers.
  • Performs minor electrical troubleshooting and repairs including but not limited to: diagnosing bad motors, resetting overload assemblies, and replacing ballasts/switches.
  • Performs minor facilities improvement and repair-related work including but not limited to cutting/replacing ceiling tiles, replacing window air conditioners, clearing clogged drains and toilets.
  • Works with an outside contractor on equipment as required.
  • Assesses and performs emergency repairs of equipment in order to restore service, protect persons and/or abate damages to buildings and equipment (including all actions necessary to render a situation, system, or component in a safe condition).
  • Notify the appropriate Facilities Manager of resolutions of initial trouble calls and all problems requiring additional repairs.
  • Completes all required PM and work order tracking documentation as instructed by Supervisor and submits in a timely manner.
  • Complies with all applicable environmental, health and safety regulations and all applicable College policies and procedures, including, but not limited to the wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participates on snow removal team upon request of the Facilities Director or Associate Director.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned by his/her Supervisor to support the needs of NYMC/campus operations.
