About The Position

Maintains, operates and repairs HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, and air conditioning) and other building related systems on campus. Essential duties include developing and maintaining positive relationships with customers and others within the college community. Responsibilities include the following specific duties and other assignments as required by their Supervisor to support the needs of the college and campus operations.

Requirements

  • The individual must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED certification.
  • The individual must maintain EPA certification as a Universal Technician or be a candidate for certification within the next 6 months.
  • The individual should be proficient in Windows based software and feel comfortable navigating the Internet.
  • The individual must possess the ability to read blueprints and diagrams, technical journals, communicate in English through speech, reading and writing skills.
  • Two or more years of experience in the HVAC field are preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA and EHS guidelines are essential.
  • Technical knowledge of HVAC systems acquired through training and experience is preferred.
  • Skill in reading blueprints and diagrams, basic welding, and plumbing skills are desirable.

Nice To Haves

  • A technical degree and continuing education in related seminars and courses to maintain a working knowledge of new and emerging technologies is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Carrier IVue Pro software would be plus.

Responsibilities

  • Makes periodic inspections and repairs to HVAC, boilers, refrigeration equipment and other building systems.
  • Does minor electrical troubleshooting on building comfort cooling and heating systems and works with outside contractors as directed.
  • Works with the HVAC A mechanic to learn and understand Ivue through physical manipulation of the equipment.
  • Maintains, operates, installs, and adjusts energy control systems and air handling systems that regulate building temperatures.
  • Maintains and operates the cooling towers, works with the HVAC A mechanic on the water treatment for the towers and the boilers.
  • Troubleshoots reheat coils, electronic and pneumatic controls.
  • Performs routine maintenance such as replacing belts and fan blades, tensioning motors, replacing gauges, and other required work as instructed by the Associate Director.
  • Switches between gas and oil as required by Con Edison gas curtailment and monitors boiler operation.
  • Maintain log readings and records of HVAC equipment.
  • Complete department work orders including needed repair parts and orders.
  • Performs emergency repairs to restore service, protect persons and limit damages to buildings and equipment.
  • Notify the appropriate manager of solutions to initial trouble calls and report problems requiring additional repairs to management.
  • Comply with all OSHA, EPA and Environmental Health and Safety directives to include the use and/or wearing of protective equipment, lockout tag out, and all other safety related programs.
  • Participates on snow removal team upon request of the Facilities Management Associate Director.
  • Maintains, repairs and installs all Facilities related equipment as directed by their Supervisor.
