About The Position

The Maintenance Manager leads the branch maintenance function, ensuring equipment reliability, safety compliance, cost control, and process excellence. This role partners closely with shop personnel, operations, sales, and leadership to maximize equipment uptime and support revenue-producing operations. As a member of the branch leadership team, the Maintenance Manager plays a key role in driving performance, continuous improvement, and Barnhart’s “One TEAM” culture.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of maintenance leadership experience in the construction or heavy industrial industry.
  • Proven ability to lead maintenance teams, manage processes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with strong communication and people management capabilities.
  • High attention to detail, particularly in financial controls, budgeting, scheduling, and time management.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, databases, email, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience working in maintenance management systems (IFS preferred).
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong working knowledge of crane and/or heavy equipment maintenance preferred.
  • Experience working in maintenance management systems (IFS preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the maintenance department, including operators and mechanics, to ensure proper maintenance standards are met.
  • Partner closely with Shop Personnel to communicate and address equipment maintenance issues reported from the field.
  • Establish and enforce industry-standard maintenance practices and parts purchasing processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement of maintenance systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Bid, negotiate pricing, and approve all maintenance part orders, project materials, and supplies.
  • Assign, manage, and enter all work orders through IFS.
  • Oversee invoicing for billable service parts and labor hours.
  • Track and report on service calls, equipment downtime, and available fleet capacity.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Project Management, Dispatch, Operations, and Safety to maximize equipment uptime and operational readiness.
  • Participate in management meetings and daily whiteboard meetings as a key member of the branch leadership team.
  • Compile and submit equipment maintenance data for monthly reporting and performance metrics.
  • Maintain all federal and state-required maintenance records for equipment.
  • Conduct shop safety audits and promote a strong safety-first culture.
