PURPOSE: The Maintenance Manager is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for all maintenance-related activities at the Great Falls Refinery. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and cost‑effective maintenance of refinery assets while supporting operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and long‑term asset integrity. As a key member of the refinery leadership team, the Maintenance Manager leads a multi‑disciplinary organization that includes maintenance execution, inspection, reliability, turnarounds, and materials management. This position partners closely with Operations, Engineering, HSE, and Technical teams to ensure equipment availability, risk reduction, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred (or equivalent refinery maintenance experience).
  • Minimum 10 years of refinery or petrochemical maintenance experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading maintenance and/or reliability organizations in a 24/7 operating environment.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Mechanical integrity and asset management
  • Turnaround planning and execution
  • Reliability engineering principles
  • Regulatory and PSM requirements
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions.
  • Participation in on‑call rotation and after‑hours support as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing inspection, reliability, and warehouse functions.
  • Strong turnaround leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance planning best practices.
  • Experience driving cultural or performance improvement initiatives.
  • SAP / JDE experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead maintenance activities with an uncompromising commitment to personal and process safety.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, PSM, and Calumet safety and environmental standards.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through visible field presence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Maintenance Supervisors to ensure safe and effective execution of daily and planned maintenance work.
  • Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to support refinery reliability.
  • Ensure maintenance activities align with operational priorities and refinery objectives.
  • Drive consistent maintenance planning, scheduling, and work execution discipline.
  • Lead the Reliability and Inspection functions to improve equipment performance and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Support and enforce mechanical integrity programs, inspections, and fitness‑for‑service evaluations.
  • Utilize data, KPIs, and root cause analysis to identify reliability risks and drive corrective actions.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on asset health, life‑cycle cost management, and reliability growth.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Turnaround Manager for planning and execution of unit turnarounds and major outages.
  • Ensure turnarounds are safely executed on schedule and within budget.
  • Support scope development, risk assessments, contractor management, and post‑turnaround reviews.
  • Oversee the Warehouse Supervisor and materials management activities.
  • Ensure availability and control of spare parts, materials, and critical inventories.
  • Drive improvements in inventory optimization, cost control, and material readiness.
  • Build, develop, and retain a skilled maintenance and reliability organization.
  • Coach and mentor supervisors and managers to strengthen leadership capability and technical competence.
  • Support succession planning and workforce development initiatives.
  • Reinforce Calumet values, performance expectations, and accountability.
  • Partner with Operations to align maintenance priorities with production needs.
  • Collaborate with Engineering on capital projects, equipment improvements, and long‑term asset strategies.
  • Participate in budget development, cost control, and capital planning.
  • Support audits, inspections, and corporate initiatives as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
