About The Position

The Maintenance Lead is a working supervisor responsible for performing and coordinating hands-on maintenance and repair activities across a higher education campus. This role emphasizes technical expertise in commercial HVAC systems and familiarity with MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems. The Maintenance Lead will guide a small team, prioritize work orders, and ensure timely completion of tasks while actively participating in maintenance work.

Requirements

  • Strong technical skills in commercial HVAC systems; familiarity with MEP systems.
  • Ability to lead by example in a hands-on environment.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.
  • Basic computer skills, including CMMS and Microsoft Office.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in HVAC preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in HVAC maintenance and repair; experience with MEP systems a plus.
  • Previous experience in a lead or working supervisor role preferred.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations.
  • Physical ability to perform maintenance tasks (lifting, climbing, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Perform and lead maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, pumps, motors, cooling towers, and building automation systems.
  • Assist with diagnosing and resolving MEP system issues to prevent equipment failures.
  • Utilize CMMS to review and update work orders, track progress, and maintain accurate records.
  • Balance hands-on preventive maintenance with service and repair tasks.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance staff as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and college environmental health and safety requirements.
  • Participate in routine inspections and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments and communicate priorities to team members.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance situations and be available for on-call support.
  • Assist with small-scale projects and equipment installations as directed.
  • Complete required training and craft self-assessments within designated timelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
