About The Position

The purpose of this position is to ensure the District's vehicles, including buses, vans, trucks, cars, tractors, mowers, heavy equipment, and small engines, remain operational to minimize problems or interruptions to the education program.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a course of study in automotive mechanics from a college, university, trade or technical school and a minimum of two years experience as an automotive mechanic.
  • Any equivalent experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be taken under consideration.
  • Experience and training in diesel engine repair, small engine repair, body repair, fabrication and welding repair, etc. with the ability to maintain vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, tools, and terminology in the assigned skill areas.
  • Ability to efficiently read, thoroughly understand, and apply technical information in maintenance manuals, technical publications, and maintenance directives.
  • General knowledge of automotive diagnosis and repair as well as service and maintenance techniques.
  • Must have or obtain a valid Kansas Commercial Driver’s License (C.D.L.) and possess a good driving record.
  • Ability to work in varied weather and temperature conditions.
  • Ability to work from heights.
  • Ability to perform work independently according to prescribed standards and procedures with a minimum of supervision.
  • Dependability and the ability to get along with others.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, hazardous materials, and proper ways necessary to perform the assigned tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience as a heavy truck mechanic is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Maintenance IV – Auto Mechanic to receive each day’s assignments.
  • Respond to work requests in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Diagnose and repair District vehicles and equipment as directed in maintenance manuals and technical publications.
  • Maintain accurate service and repair records for all vehicles and file them for future reference.
  • Assist with development and carry out preventative maintenance program.
  • Follow the District’s system for the receipt and issuance of parts and supplies as well as maintaining recordkeeping and inventories.
  • Attend appropriate training sessions, meetings, and classes as part of professional development.
  • Maintain accurate and complete time sheets.
  • Obtain and maintain qualifications as a school bus driver, and be available as a substitute driver.
  • Assist other maintenance areas with work requests as assigned.
  • Demonstrate professional image through appearance, language, and work ethic.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
