POSITION OVERVIEW The Instrument and Electrical (I&E) Technician will interface with the appropriate maintenance and manufacturing resources to resolve, improve and implement maintenance activities in a safe, responsible and environmentally sound manner which is in compliance with all regulatory requirements. While striving to provide personal support of daily operations, the I&E Technician will work to meet schedule requirements while continuing efforts toward personal development and continuous improvement. Work quality and performance must be maintained to the highest level with the expectation of all jobs being completed, documented and verified as completely satisfactory.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 3 years experience in an Industrial environment is required.
  • Associates in Applied Sciences Degree in Industrial Instrumentation and/or Industrial Electrician OR equivalent apprenticeship preferred.
  • NCCER+ certification required or attained within 12-18 months.
  • Journeyman Electrical License a plus
  • NFPA 70E Arc Flash certification a plus
  • Must be able to demonstrate, based on past performance, personal safety management and adherence to safe work practices.
  • Must be participant in working in, and continuing to foster, a safe work culture.
  • Working knowledge of SAP a plus.
  • Working knowledge of documenting calibrators and AMS (Asset Management Software) a plus
  • Knowledge of and experience with electrical installations, calibrations, maintenance and troubleshooting along with the ability to read and understand P&ID, Single-Line, Schematic, and Loop Drawings.
  • Knowledge of and experience with transformers and circuit breakers maintenance and installation.
  • Knowledge of standards for electrical equipment repairs and overhauls.
  • Knowledge of good engineering practices, ISA, IEEE, NFPA, and other applicable standards.
  • Proven ability to perform high level troubleshooting.
  • Experience in interfacing with solid state relays.
  • Strong sense of ownership and a drive to improve existing systems and processes by creative and innovative approaches.
  • Solid interpersonal and organizational skills with excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • A strong bias to “act on facts,” probe and “test” logic and develop creative solutions.
  • The confidence to deal with ambiguity and take risks to achieve better results while clearly articulating and planning to mitigate them if not fully successful.
  • Proactive team-building skills with the ability to work effectively throughout the organization in a fast-paced matrix-structured reporting organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory/compliance issues and ESSH policies, guidelines and procedures in a highly hazardous chemical company is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure equipment history and SAP Bill of Materials is maintained and accurate.
  • Update failure codes in SAP as work is completed.
  • Improve job plans through HRP, EIP including Controlled Document updates.
  • Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Failure Modes Event Analysis (FMEA) and Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) processes.
  • Maintain instrument and electrical equipment through preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Perform and document all calibrations, testing, measuring and repairing of electrical controls, instrumentation and electronic equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions and assist with failure analysis.
  • Test and calibrate equipment and update drawings as necessary.
  • Perform plant priority work as needed, including off-hour support through scheduled and call-in support.
  • Assist with defining appropriate I&E spare parts and maintaining equipment and specification files.
  • Commit to and actively participate in equitable technician resource leveling, overtime allocation and vacation practices.
  • Communicate and maintain procedures, policies, plant direction/results and programs.
  • Ensure that training materials, procedures and records are maintained.
  • Ensure that the MOC process is followed.
  • Provide clear communication with management and operations team for all jobs.
  • Ensure all safety meetings are attended within the group.
