About The Position

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Direct and manage the Custodial Services department for the Amarillo ISD. Oversee the planning, scheduling, and budgeting of Custodial Services related to District buildings and facilities procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory ability
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Knowledge in various technical crafts utilized in the Custodial Services department
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with District personnel, general public, visitors, contractors, and vendors
  • General knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations related to maintenance and operations activities
  • Working knowledge of competitive procurement procedures
  • General knowledge of methods and procedures related to Hazardous Materials disposal and asbestos abatement
  • Five years of successful experience in the Custodial Services industry

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all District custodial staff working for the Custodial Services Department, including those at campuses
  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal ensuring that federal, state, local, and District laws, policies, and procedures are followed. Coordinate these activities with the appropriate supervisors and the Human Resources department as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with principals and facilities managers to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations.
  • Establish and oversee work schedules and procedures for the regular custodial care of all district facilities and special custodial projects.
  • Make work assignments and arrange for substitute custodians as needed.
  • Develop and maintain a campus cleanliness inspection plan for all locations utilizing ATP testing or other methods as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain a custodial services training program for new hires and existing custodial staff. Including items such as proper chemical usage, requirements, and storage, the proper use of custodial equipment, proper cleaning procedures for all locations. This should also include training related to District policies and procedures.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required including maintaining accurate information for payroll reporting (timecards, tardiness, and absenteeism).
  • Inspect all district buildings and facilities and schedule cleaning and repairs.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  • Prepare, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for custodial equipment. Ensure maintenance is completed and equipment is in safe operating condition. Recommend replacement of existing equipment when necessary.
  • Order tools, equipment, and supplies for all locations abiding by all District requirements and purchasing procedures
  • Develop and maintain an inventory plan for custodial supplies for all locations and maintain an equipment replacement schedules.
  • Assist in the preparation of department budget.
  • Coordinate the moving and delivery of district furniture, equipment, and other heavy or bulky materials.
  • Direct the set-up of facilities for special events.
  • Maintain safety standards in accordance with federal, state, district, and insurance regulations and train custodians on proper and safe use of equipment and chemicals. Ensure established safety procedures are followed including lifting and climbing. Make sure tools and equipment are operated and chemicals handled according to established safety procedures.
  • Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
