The NC State Parks has a Maintenance/Construction Technician II position available. This role is responsible for hands on work maintaining grounds, buildings, facilities, and equipment. Work includes, custodial tasks, boundary line clearing, routine maintenance, trail maintenance, trash collection, mowing and trimming, prescribed burn assistance and/or auto mechanics.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to work evenings, holidays, and/or weekends when necessary.
  • Must be able to perform work inside and outside in various environmental conditions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Within 12-24 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain and maintain: CPR Certification Emergency Medical Responder Certification Wildland Fire Suppression Certifications Certified in S212 Chainsaw Operations Training - perform hazardous tree assessments and if necessary, tree removal within the park.
  • To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, the candidate must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government, including without limitation the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system, subject to the State Human Resources Act.
  • Employee eligible for a sign-on must work at least 20 hours per week.
  • All Sign-on Bonuses are contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated work experience performing trades in at least two of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/or auto mechanics.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing grounds maintenance/landscaping.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on buildings, facilities, and grounds maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Performing a variety of semiskilled tasks in a trade such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and facility maintenance, and/or auto mechanics.
  • Operating large and small equipment and/or tools.
  • Purchasing resources in accordance with state purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining records and preparing operational forms.
  • Assisting in housekeeping.
  • May Supervise temporary and permanent staff, community service participates, and/or volunteers on special projects.
