About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The responsibility of this position is to write specifications and provide drawings as necessary on all major projects. Due to the nature of the maintenance work here, plans are frequently changed to meet emergency needs, or because of short notice priority changes. This position requires inspections of all buildings and grounds on a six - month basis, looking for needed maintenance items. Work schedules are made from these inspections and work orders. carpentry frame/trim work, paint and sheetrock, plastering, masonry, concrete, ceramic & terrazzo tile. Requirements

  • Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and concepts of the plaster, carpenter, concrete & masonry trade
  • Ability to use of all hand tools and machines to complete assignments.
  • Ability to read drawings, sketches, and blueprints to make accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and the physical strength to perform heavy tasks.
