About The Position

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Desoto Correctional Institution in the Maintenance Department. The mission of Facilities Management and Building Construction at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide a safe, secure, and efficient environment for staff, inmates, and visitors. This is achieved through the effective management, maintenance, and construction of correctional facilities, ensuring they meet all regulatory standards and support the department's overall mission of public safety and rehabilitation. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma (or its equivalent) and 9 years of experience in one or more of the following trades: Electronics, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, or Construction. A Technical Certification in a maintenance trade or a degree from an accredited college or university may substitute on year for year up to 4 years of experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in plant maintenance and building construction
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate maintenance repairs, preventive activities, and work assignments.
  • Inspect buildings and equipment, advising on maintenance and construction needs.
  • Ensure proper custody and security measures for maintenance and construction squads.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare budgets, and manage procurement of materials.
  • Prepare reports and effectively communicate, plan, organize, and supervise maintenance programs.
