About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! The new salary range is Salary Range: $37,377.00 - $65,408.00 This is an INTERNAL POSTING open ONLY for current employees of the NC Department of Adult Correction. This is a REPOST of position 60057931. Previous applicants MUST REAPPLY to be considered. This position is at Marion Correctional Institution located in Marion, NC (McDowell County). Work in this class involves first-line supervision to Correctional Officer I’s in minimum-custody facilities, increasing the custody and security coverage. Positions assign lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post. Employees oversee officer activities and performance and ensure that the custody, security and welfare of inmates is maintained. Employees arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy. Positions may at times be the highest-ranking custody staff on the grounds or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC). Positions report to a Correctional Lieutenant I and/or a Correctional Assistant Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the overall operation of correctional facilities.
  • Working knowledge of various policies, procedures, rules, and regulations associated with the control and management of inmates.
  • Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.
  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a correctional officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
