The NC State Parks has a Maintenance Supervisor I position. This position will inspects park facilities and buildings for maintenance and safety hazards. Assists in housekeeping, grounds and vehicle maintenance. Operation of water and/or wastewater treatment facilities. Draws and reads blueprints/structural specifications plans for minor/major renovations and repairs, cost estimates of repairs and other projects. Participates in facility master planning, develops and implements outside bid package, reviews and comments on plan sheets from outside designers and contractors, monitors and inspects contractor construction and renovation projects. Serves as liaison to local officials and/or regulatory agencies; participates in the overall management for the facility/agency. Supervises, plans, reviews and evaluates the work of temporary and permanent employees, community service personnel, and/or volunteers on special projects. Provides record keeping tasks and prepares basic operational forms.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND three (3) years of progressive experience in facility maintenance or construction including journey level experience in at least three (3) building or mechanical trades; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
  • Typical work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:00 A.M to 4:00 P.M, must be able to work evenings, holidays, and/or weekends when necessary. This schedule may vary.
  • Position is considered "Essential/Mandatory Staff" and required to work on adverse weather days, during park emergencies, and may be called to work on special events.
  • Must have the ability to perform strenuous physical work inside and/or outside with alertness to surroundings in extremes of weather and challenging physical environments with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have the ability to move relatively heavy objects (up to 90 pounds) and to work at heavy manual tasks for considerable periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Within 12-24 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain and maintain: Class A CDL CPR Certification Emergency Medical Responder Certification Wildland Fire Suppression Certifications Certified in S212 Chainsaw Operations Training - perform hazardous tree assessments and if necessary, tree removal within the park. C-Well Certification Subsurface Wastewater Treatment Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge and work experience performing trades in at least three of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or auto mechanics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience using building codes and/or rules and regulations including proven methods and practices governing repair, maintenance, and/or construction of facilities and machinery.
  • Demonstrated experience reading and/or drawing blueprints/structural specifications and/or estimating material.

Responsibilities

  • This position is a hands on technical supervisor managing routine construction, maintenance and repairs for all facilities, buildings and structures and/or automotive repairs.
  • This position maintains the stock control procedures for tools, parts and supplies.
  • This position advises management concerning the technical aspects of maintaining, replacing or renovating equipment and facilities.
