The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for performing maintenance and housekeeping duties in the community and around the community grounds as assigned. This role assists with maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents, guests, and team members. Requirements

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication
  • Competent in organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrates good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Maintains a current applicable driver’s license to drive Sunrise vehicles provided with an acceptable driving record in accordance with applicable regulations and Sunrise policy
  • Completion of Driver Training may be required and/or certificates available per regulations and laws as applicable
  • Possess a general understanding of OSHA/British Columbia Workers Compensation Act, fire prevention, and life and safety regulations
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls outside of scheduled work hours
  • Demonstration of proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel) and Sunrise applications with the ability to learn new applications
  • As applicable, all Sunrise team members who drive a Sunrise vehicle must review and sign the Driver job description and understand the key essential duties for safety and regulatory compliance

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year maintenance and/or housekeeping experience preferred
  • Technical school education preferred
  • Demonstrates a general understanding of systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical and code compliance

Responsibilities

  • Completing all maintenance tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Performing general maintenance duties such as fixing wall coverings, floor coverings, repairing furniture and fixtures, performing basic plumbing work, minor electrical repairs, and repairing appliances.
  • Assisting with painting and refurbishing projects.
  • Performing minor building and equipment repairs.
  • Conducting routine maintenance on all Sunrise vehicles as assigned.
  • Maintaining all tools and repair parts.
  • Participating in all fire drills and in the community’s disaster preparedness program.
  • Assisting with working on heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Assisting with work on domestic water systems and pumps.
  • Assisting with work on refrigeration systems, motors, fans, electrical systems, and emergency generators.
  • Performing routine preventative maintenance as directed by supervisor and according to safety regulations.
  • Performing carpet and hard surface floor maintenance.
  • Performing deep cleaning and resident suite ‘make ready’ rooms as assigned.
  • Assisting with housekeeping functions as needed.
  • Partnering with community team to ensure community is in compliance with national/provincial regulations pertaining to occupational health and safety requirements, promoting Risk Management programs and policies, and adhering to safety rules and regulations.
  • Practicing safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Lockout Tagout procedures, and infection control guidelines.
  • Ensuring any cords, carts, equipment, and other hazards are always kept out of the way.
  • Maintaining equipment and supplies to avoid waste, damage to areas and equipment, and to prevent accidents.
  • Reviewing, reading, notating, and initialing the Building Management Platform to document and learn about pertinent information and actions required.
  • Practicing positive resident relations and directing resident or family member feedback to supervisor.
  • Maintaining and protecting the confidentiality of resident information.
  • Assisting in driving the community vehicle and/or bus as assigned.
  • Participating as a member of a team and committing to working toward team goals.
  • Demonstrating in daily interactions with others, our Team Member Credo.
  • Committing to serving our residents and guests through our Principles of Service.
  • Contributing to the overall engagement programs and processes (customer and team member engagement) including participating in the team member engagement survey and engagement improvement planning workshops.
  • Attending regular meetings; Town Hall, Monthly Department, Cross Over, and others as directed by the Supervisor/Department Coordinator.
  • Maintaining compliance in assigned required training and all training required by state/province or other regulating authorities as applicable to this role to ensure that Sunrise standards are always met.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
