About The Position

Mary Queen of Peace Parish is seeking a Maintenance Assistant who will be responsible for providing janitorial and maintenance support, as well as ensuring the safety and security of our facilities (indoor) and grounds (outdoor). The Maintenance Assistant is a key member of the staff who supports our work as disciples of Christ. This position plays an important role in the facilities operations to support our church community during ordinary times, liturgical seasons and with special events. The Maintenance Assistant will work with the Facilities Manager who will serve as a mentor and assign specific tasks and projects. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. The work schedule for this position is 40 hours per week, Thursday thru Monday, including weekends.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, climb ladders, be trained to use lift equipment and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Able to work weekends and evenings to support church events.
  • Knowledge of and respect for Catholic Church values and traditions.
  • Complete a successful background check through VIRTUS

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the building is opened and secured according to work schedule.
  • Clean Facilities: Sweep, mop, vacuum and scrub floors; clean, dust and polish furniture; wash windows and walls; clean restrooms; collect and dispose of garbage and recycling, etc.; make certain all areas of the building are kept in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition.
  • General Maintenance: Assist with general maintenance tasks, including but not limited to painting, light carpentry, minor repair work, changing light bulbs, installing door stops, etc. inside the church and around the facilities and parking lot.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Assist in the maintenance of the church grounds, including snow removal and de-icing, as needed. Pick up litter and keep roadways safe and free from fallen branches and leaves. Moving hoses and setting drip lines and securing property against wind damage.
  • General Support: Provides general assistance as needed. Is responsible for room setups, moving and hauling items and picking up furniture and other equipment as requested.
  • Event Support: Provide custodial, set-up and security support during church events, weddings, funerals, and other gatherings, as required.
  • Supplies Management: Assist in managing inventory and notifying the Director of Parish Operations when ordering supplies as necessary for maintenance and cleaning tasks.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, implementation meetings and facilities meetings.
  • Special projects as assigned.
