About The Position

The Maintenance Apprentice is an entry-level, multi-craft role designed for individuals seeking to develop technical skills in an industrial manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the apprentice assists journey-level technicians in installing, maintaining, and repairing production equipment while typically being enrolled in a related post-secondary or technical program.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institute or technical school during the apprenticeship period.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively in English
  • Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate.
  • Able to apply concepts of high school math.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.

Responsibilities

  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on pumps, motors, hydraulic systems, conveyors, steam systems, and other facility equipment.
  • Equipment Repair: Assist in the installation and repair of machines; learn to troubleshoot programmable controllers (PLCs) and A/C and D/C drives.
  • Technical Interpretation: Read and apply blueprints, schematics, and operating manuals to perform repairs.
  • Facility Support: Assist with plant inspections to identify mechanical issues and perform basic maintenance in plumbing, carpentry, welding, and electrical trades.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain a safe and clean work environment (5S/Housekeeping); strictly adhere to company safety policies and wear required PPE.
  • Documentation: Accurately complete work orders and daily maintenance paperwork via maintenance software systems.
  • Availability: Must be willing to work flexible hours, including 2nd or 3rd shifts and weekends as needed.
  • Skills: Willingness to learn multi-craft trades (Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics).
