Start Date: May 2026 Estimated End Date: May 2027 a 52-week minimum commitment is required Location Details/Description: Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument, managed by the National Park Service, is located on the northern edge of Las Vegas, Nevada, offering a unique blend of rugged desert landscape and rich Ice Age history. The duty station in Las Vegas provides easy access to the monument, which preserves thousands of acres of undeveloped land containing one of the most significant Pleistocene fossil assemblages in the Southwest. Members serving here will experience a site where mammoths, ancient camels, bison, and other Ice Age species once roamed, all while working just minutes from the amenities of a major city. Although the monument is still in its early development stages and lacks facilities such as restrooms, water, and visitor centers, its wide-open scenery, solitude, and remarkable paleontological resources offer a rare opportunity to work in a developing national park unit. Its proximity to Las Vegas allows for reliable cell coverage, easy commuting, and access to housing, groceries, and recreation, making it an appealing and convenient host location with truly one-of-a-kind natural resources. The intern will assist with critical maintenance needs that support and strengthen coordination with gateway communities, enhance the public's experience, but also preserve the Monument's resources and assets. Among the notable historic resources preserved at this urban Monument is the Tule Springs Archeological Site, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups. The individual will accomplish field work at Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument located on the northern part of the Las Vegas valley and office is located 45 miles south in Boulder City. Schedule: Typical schedule outside of the summer months are Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm PST.
