Position Overview: The Application Development Group Manager is a senior management level position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department in an effort to establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology Team. The overall objective of this role is to drive applications systems analysis and programming activities.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in driving delivery of large-scale enterprise technology solutions in Banking & Financial Services domain.
  • 5+ years of enterprise Mainframe & Java development and support experience required.
  • Experience in implementing projects, systems analysis and programming of software applications.
  • Demonstrated Subject Matter Expert (SME) in area(s) of Applications Development.
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, and development skills.
  • Deep understanding of Retail Banking / Personal Banking & Wealth ecosystem.
  • Deep understanding of Mainframe technology stack (e.g. COBOL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, JCL, etc.) to deep dive into technical aspects of the application with development team members.
  • An excellent understanding of MLI, API, Microservices, Spring, Cloud technologies, Core Java, Java EE and Databases with some hands-on experience.
  • Hands of experience of managing software delivery with multi-location delivery units in complex multi dependency paradigm and ability to manage virtual teams.
  • Proven leadership to drive technical performance of the team to the next level.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to mitigate project risk with proactive planning.
  • An excellent communication & mature negotiation skill.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of Citi’s existing Retail Banking systems will be preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Technical Direction: Define and execute the technology roadmap for both Mainframe and Java application portfolios, aligning with broader business and technology objectives.
  • Lead the architectural design and strategy for modernizing legacy Mainframe applications, including migration to Java-based microservices and cloud platforms.
  • Champion and enforce best practices in software development, including Agile methodologies, DevOps, CI/CD, and automated testing across both platforms.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure our platforms remain competitive and efficient.
  • People & Team Management: Manage and lead a diverse team of Mainframe developers, Java developers, DevOps & CI/CD engineers, SMEs and Scrum masters for the Retail Bank core banking platform.
  • Provide strategic direction, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for onshore and offshore team members.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee Book of work, resource allocation, capacity planning, and team performance management.
  • Create accountability and maintain high standards of performance across the team.
  • Care, coach and develop future leaders within the organization.
  • Project Delivery & Execution: Oversee the entire SDLC for all projects, from initial concept and design to deployment and post-production support.
  • Ensure the timely and high-quality delivery of complex, large-scale projects, managing risks, issues, and dependencies.
  • Manage project budgets, forecasting, and financial reporting for your application portfolio.
  • Interface with TPM organizations to ensure project governance and reporting standards are met.
  • Communication & Stakeholder Management Exhibit high-level communication skills, influence management, and excellent presentation ability to work effectively with executive teams.
  • Drive communication between business leaders and IT; exhibit sound and comprehensive communication and diplomacy skills to exchange complex information.
  • Negotiate internally at senior levels across Retail Banking and Wealth Technologies.
  • Lead projects with multiple counterparts across organizations.
  • Leads and facilitates group discussions to effectively triage high-pressure production issues.
  • Present complex technical concepts & issues to diverse audiences from Business Risk Management and ICRM groups including senior executives.
