About The Position

The Oregon Department of Justice, Administrative Services Division (ASD) is seeking to hire a Mail Services Assistant for the Operations Section located in Salem. The Operations Section provides facilities management, procurement, publications support services, supply property and warehouse services, as well as mail room services. The purpose of this position is to process incoming and outgoing mail and packages, explain mailing procedures and regulations to other agency employees, and to assist other areas such as supply and publications with coverage and miscellaneous job duties. The majority of this position's job duties require driving a state-owned vehicle delivering and picking up mail. The persons are required to hold a valid Oregon driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record. This position is on-site and will require travel to DOJ offices. Apply today! Requirements

  • At least 1 year working in a professional environment.
  • An organized, self-starter.
  • Good driving record and able to maintain a license to drive a vehicle in the State of Oregon.
  • Experience working in an environment that requires strict confidentiality.
  • Able to independently move and transport boxes and mail bags weighing upwards of 50 pounds from one location to another with or without accommodations and above 50 pounds with accommodations.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, date stamp, and sort, incoming letters, periodicals, and packages delivered by US Postal Service, State shuttle service, and freight carriers. Deliver mail using push-cart or hand truck to agency divisions. Mail van is used daily for DOJ facilities outside the Salem capitol mall area.
  • Sort outgoing mail by class and seal envelopes. Weigh mail and affix proper postage using metering postage machine. Refill postage meters. Weigh and log in manifest book and label packages for delivery by freight carriers. Pack outgoing mail in trays or sacks. Pick up outgoing mail and packages for US Postal Service, State shuttle service, and freight carriers from agency divisions using pushcart and hand truck.
  • Maintain production records and postage accounts. Record postage due amounts and first, second and bulk class mail rate charges. Log incoming and outgoing certified, registered, or insured letters. Complete forms and permits for international mail.
  • Provides physical support to transport storage boxes or to assist in agency office relocations. May pick up work from agency divisions and deliver to the state copy center. May help move furniture and other supply/property related tasks, including assisting in the warehouse occasionally.
  • Answers questions on mailing procedures and postal regulations from agency staff and clients.
  • Other special projects as assigned.
