About The Position

Under general supervision of the Medical Imaging Director , Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologists are responsible for the use of Radio Frequencies (RF’s) with a magnetic field on humans of all ages (newborn to geriatric) for diagnostic purposes, are required to maintain confidentiality of all privileged information, and general maintenance and upkeep of the MRI unit and equipment associated with the MRI unit. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology that is recognized by the ARRT, ARMRIT or equivalent training program.
  • Certification by the American Registry Radiology Technologist (ARRT-MRI), American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT), or current CT certification by ARRT with a minimum of 125 documented MRI exams and 16 hours of continuing education credits specifically in MRI, or written proof of registry eligibility from either ARMRIT or ARRT.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers.
  • Must be able to successfully pass the Employee Health Program requirements and background investigation.
  • Knowledge of applicable tribal, federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, including The Joint Commission accreditation.
  • Knowledge of company personnel policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of institutional regulations regarding patient care, fire safety, infection control, disaster plans and emergency codes.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, and arithmetic.
  • Ability to recognize subtle differences between healthy areas of pathology.
  • Ability to understand and follow prescribed diagnostic protocols.
  • Ability to operate the MRI equipment that we have here.
  • Ability to read and understand the answers on the pre-MRI Checklist.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing; with staff, vendors, patients, and family members/caregivers of patients.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Must show ability to work effectively with individuals from in Radiology and other departments and demonstrate team-building skills with empathy and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Must familiarize with the Navajo culture to provide adequate care to our patient population.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
  • Must seek excellence in everything while seeking to improve in workflow and results.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and on-call duties in 20 minutes.
  • Must display skill in operating business computers and office machines including but not limited to fax machines, copiers, printers, Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to learn and use all facets of our PACs system and the PACs system of the Radiologist group providing interpretation services to Sage.
  • Must be skilled in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and submitting recommendations for resolving problems (troubleshooting).
  • Performs other duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MRI procedures utilizing MRI scanner and power injectors producing cross sectional and 3D images at the request of and for interpretation by licensed independent practitioner.
  • May also be called upon to assist with interventional and therapeutic procedures and perform complex imaging reformatting.
  • MRI integrates scientific knowledge, technical skills, patient interaction and compassionate care resulting in diagnostic information.
  • Recognize patient conditions, assess and monitor patient and take appropriate actions in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, computer technology, basic patient care and assessment techniques, MRI physics, and medical terminology.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and sequence techniques.
  • Possess, utilize, and maintain knowledge of magnetic protection and safety, radiation protection, and safety and current complex scanning protocols.
  • Willing and able to be primary liaison between patients, licensed independent practitioner, and other members of the support team.
  • Remain sensitive to the physical and emotional need of the patient through good communication, assessment, monitoring, and care skills.
  • Prepare, administer, and document activities related to medications in accordance with state and federal law as well as institutional policy.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes and continuous assessments of performance are expected.
  • Think critically and use independent, professional, and ethical judgement in all aspects of work ENGAGEMENT in continuing education to enhance patient care, public education, knowledge, and technical competence is expected in this role.
  • Independently perform or assist the licensed independent practitioner in the completion of all MRI imaging exams.
  • Independently complete imaging exams based on physicians written orders, department protocols and hospital safety standards.
  • Evaluate and react to information contained in the MRI safety checklist as well as the MRI contrast checklist.
  • Prioritize workload based on ordered patient priority.
  • Represent the goals and values of Navajo Health Foundation.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards, health system and department policies, procedures, processes, and guidelines applicable to MRI.
  • Teach/train students in MRI physics, positioning, safety, contrast/injector usage, etc.
  • Mentor student technologists and new graduates.
  • Assist technologists from other modalities with MRI in obtaining the required number of exams in order to sit for certification in MRI.
  • Resolve basic issues within the MRI scope of practice.
  • Initiate equipment service calls.
  • On call, weekend and other after-hours coverage will be required based on workload demand and staffing needs of the hospital.
  • MRI Technologists are considered “Essential Employees” who may be required to report to work in accordance with Sage Memorial Hospital Policy, disaster policy, incident command, etc.
  • Must have immediate access to a phone.
  • Other duties as assigned.
