About The Position

Position Summary The STEAM Teacher develops, delivers, and refines interdisciplinary learning experiences that integrate science, technology, engineering, art/design, and mathematics. The teacher promotes inquiry, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving through hands-on, project-based learning. They cultivate a classroom culture where students feel safe to experiment, collaborate, take intellectual risks, and explore authentic real-world challenges. The STEAM Teacher collaborates schoolwide to support PBIS, restorative practices, and SEL frameworks while fostering innovation and curiosity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, STEM field, Technology, Engineering, Art/Design, or related area required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid state teaching certification (elementary, science, technology education, art, or other relevant certification area).
  • Demonstrated experience teaching or facilitating STEAM, STEM, makerspace, or project-based learning.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of engineering principles, coding, design thinking, art/design integration, and inquiry learning.
  • Commitment to equity, creativity, and the belief that all students can succeed in STEAM environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with robotics, coding platforms, digital fabrication, or makerspace technologies.
  • Experience integrating arts and design into STEM instruction.
  • Familiarity with restorative and trauma-informed practices.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement standards-aligned STEAM lessons that integrate multiple disciplines through inquiry, design thinking, and project-based learning.
  • Facilitate hands-on learning using tools such as robotics, coding platforms, engineering kits, makerspace materials, digital media, and art/design processes.
  • Teach students to use the engineering design cycle (ask, imagine, plan, create, improve).
  • Integrate art and creativity into STEM concepts to deepen understanding and engagement.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to measure skills such as creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, and content mastery.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and well-organized makerspace or STEAM classroom that encourages exploration and responsible material use.
  • Uphold and reinforce PBIS expectations using proactive, strengths-based approaches.
  • Apply restorative practices to build relationships, model conflict resolution, and provide structured reflection after mistakes or conflicts.
  • Promote a growth mindset culture where students persist through challenges and celebrate productive struggle.
  • Partner with grade-level teams to connect STEAM concepts to core content areas and schoolwide projects.
  • Collaborate with staff to integrate technology and arts across classrooms.
  • Participate actively in professional learning related to STEAM instruction, PBIS, restorative practices, and SEL/RULER frameworks.
  • Maintain communication with families about student progress, projects, and showcases.
  • Attend required meetings, duty assignments, and school events.
  • Lead or support schoolwide STEAM initiatives, makerspace programming, science fairs, robotics challenges, coding clubs, and student showcases.
  • Manage STEAM materials, budgets, tools, and safety protocols.
  • Display student projects and create opportunities for students to share their work with the school community.
  • Promote equitable access to STEAM learning for all students.
